Meet me in St. Louie…..

or across the (Mississippi) River at least.
My cousin Angie was getting married so my mom and I made the trek across the wonderful states of Kansas and Missouri to get to Illinois.

I also bought a (new to me) Durango the day before we left on the trip so the kids were quite comfy. Boys were in the 3rd row with their DVD players and Adalyn was in the middle section with her DVD player.

As annoyed as I might be when actually attempting to take a picture of the kids together, when I go back and look at the pictures, these out takes are just fine with me.  Shows their true colors.

My cousin Aaron also graduated high school while we were there.  Admission was limited (and who would want to take 3kids to a ceremony anyways) so I watched via the internet.  Pretty neat!  I took a picture of the computer screen as he was walking across the stage so that is him on the left.

Matthew and I took the kids outside to catch lightening bugs.  Those suckers are not as easy to catch as I remember from my childhood days of catching lightening bugs and filling peanut butter jars full!  We did manage to catch 3 (2 were “defective” and didn’t take much effort to catch).  The boys were so excited that they even let them go in the Four Seasons room (Sunroom) so that I could re-capture them!  This is Matthew and Braedyn with the bugs.

They caught 10 fish!  And Adalyn couldn’t wait to get her hands on one.  She even gave one a kiss (or a taste! ew!)

On Sunday, we went to the cemeteries and placed flowers and flags on the graves of some dear family members.  IMG_1451 IMG_1468 IMG_1459

Then we went to the Lewis and Clark Towers.IL (18) IL (20) IL (27) IL (4) IL (5)

IL (14) IL (28)

The towers at 150feet high.  An elevator takes you up to each of the 3  levels for some great views of the river.

We then drove up the River Road to Grafton to find this pirate ship….got there about 3mins TOO LATE.  Luckily the boys were NOT told about it ahead of time so they didn’t know you could go on it and get a ride.  We were just driving up the river road and I told them to look for this and that, then I said look for pirate ships and then they saw it!  Next time we will have to plan ahead.

Boys had to go to the bathroom so we stopped and saw the Piasa Bird and used the restroom there.

On Monday, we (Grammy, Gramma, me and the kids) went to the oldest Memorial Day parade in the country…the Alton Memorial Day Parade.  This year was the 143 year.

Then we headed back to Grammy’s, packed the car up and hit the road.

We stopped in Topeka, KS for the night so we could go to the Topeka Zoo and Rain Forest the next morning before finishing up the trip back to Colorado.
This is what daddy had sent to the room for Adalyn to sleep in and how she felt about it……

TOPEKA ZOO…..
We have passed the signs promoting this zoo for years…everytime we drive through Kansas….decided to stop this time.  Glad we got that over with! haha.  It wasn’t too bad. Just small and not much to it.  The flamingos were probably my favorite part.
